A top-yielding, early and yellow-seeded feed pea with strong stem and high protein content provide the best starting point for domestic protein production. Bred with Boreal’s Nordic expertise in breeding for northern conditions.
Heikki belongs to the early pea varieties. Its growth duration is two days shorter than that of the control variety Astronaute in Finnish official variety trials. Heikki is recommended for zones I–III in Finland.
Heikki is among the highest‑yielding pea varieties, outperforming Astronaute and Ingrid. Heikki has produced stable yields across all testing zones.
Heikki is a yellow seeded variety with one of the highest protein contents among pea varieties. It is excellent for producing protein feed. Thanks to its relatively small seed size, it is not prone to damage during combining or drying.
Heikki has a very strong stem. In Finnish official variety trials, Heikki’s lodging score has been clearly lower than its competitors.
Heikki has good disease resistance.
Peas grow best on well structured, fertile sandy loams and light clay soils with adequate liming. To avoid disease and pest problems, it is advisable to have a five year break before cultivating peas again on the same field. Faba bean or oilseed crops should also not be grown on the field during the break years.
