A high-yielding yellow-seeded pea variety whose earliness extends pea cultivation possibilities further north. A strong stem enhances harvest security, helping farmers retain yield and harvest efficiently. Developed with Boreal’s Nordic expertise in breeding for northern conditions.
Lempi is a very early pea variety. In Finnish official variety trials, it has been the earliest pea tested, with an average growth duration of 92 days. Lempi is suited for zones I–III in Finland.
In terms of yield, Lempi has been among the best in Finnish official variety trials. Lempi has outperformedseveral clearly later varieties.
Lempi is a yellow seeded variety that is excellent for protein feed production. Lempi’s seed is slightly smaller than the variety average and is not easily damaged during combining or drying. Its protein content is lower than average, but its protein yield is good — especially considering the variety’s earliness.
Lempi has a very strong stem. In Finnish official trials, lodging has been observed at around 10 percent — the lowest figure among pea varieties.
Lempi has good disease resistance.
Peas perform best on well structured, fertile sandy loams and light clay soils with adequate liming. To avoid disease and pest issues, peas or other legumes should not be grown on the same field more frequently than every fifth year. Oilseed crops should also not be grown on the field during the break years.
