Reetta is a couple of days earlier than hybrid ryes.
Reetta is a high yielding population variety. Good yields in both Finnish official trials and practical farming have kept Reetta at the top of cultivation statistics for many years. Reetta has:
Reetta is suitable for baking. Due to its excellent winter hardiness and relatively good lodging resistance, it is also well suited for organic farming.
Reetta’s straw characteristics are clearly better than older population varieties. Compared to newer varieties of similar height, its straw strength is good.
Reetta does not have particular disease sensitivities. Its resistance to snow mould is good. Ergot content is significantly lower than in hybrid varieties.
Reetta performs very well in all Finnish cultivation zones, on:
It is a stable variety bred specifically for Finnish conditions and has excellent winter hardiness. Recommended for zones I–III in Finland.
Snow mould control
Seed should be treated with snow mould effective dressing. In snowy areas, dense autumn stands should be sprayed at the end of the growing season.
Ergot control
Reetta produces abundant pollen, which greatly reduces ergot risk. Even stands and spray tracks improve safety further.
