Quarna

A high‑quality main‑type spring wheat with large grain size, very high protein content and excellent baking quality.

Quarna is a moderately early variety.

Quarna is a high‑yielding main‑type wheat. Its strengths are most evident in quality characteristics:

  • grain size larger than average
  • high hectoliter weight
  • extremely high protein content
  • excellent falling‑number stability
  • high gluten quantity
  • gluten quality at top milling‑industry levels

Quarna is suited for:

  • baking
  • milling processes requiring strong gluten structure

Quarna has a short, lodging‑resistant straw.

  • powdery mildew incidence has been relatively low
  • resistance to leaf blotch diseases is average

Quarna is recommended for central wheat‑growing regions. Because of its short straw, Quarna is sensitive to drought and should not be grown on drought‑prone fields. Recommended for zones I, II and III in Finland.

Quarna was bred by Delley Seed and Plants Ltd.
Boreal Plant Breeding Ltd holds the rights in Finland.
