Turanus

An early, extremely winter‑hard and high‑quality bread wheat with the highest protein yield among winter wheats. A awned variety developed for northern conditions.

Turanus is an early‑maturing variety.

Although Turanus is among the earliest varieties, it is still very high yielding. Its protein yield is the highest of all winter wheat varieties (Finnish official trials 2015–2022).

Turanus is a well‑balanced milling‑quality bread wheat. It has:

  • large grain size
  • high protein content
  • high hectoliter weight
  • good falling number

Baking quality results (Finland official trials 2021):

  • high wet gluten content
  • best farinograph baking quality in trials (highest stability, lowest softening degree)

In Austria, Turanus is classified as Class B bread wheat.

Turanus has a long but lodging‑resistant stem.

Turanus has shown no disease‑resistance weaknesses in trials.

Turanus is extremely winter hardy. Its winter damage percentage has been among the lowest in official trials. It also showed the lowest incidence of snow mould among winter wheats (2015–2022).
