A very early six‑row barley with exceptionally high yield potential, strong straw, and robust disease resistance make it a reliable choice across all northern growing zones.
BOR Katri is a very early six‑row barley. It is clearly earlier than Vertti, and when viewed by growing degree days, also earlier than Lene barley. BOR Katri is suitable for cultivation in Finnish zones I–IV.
The yield of BOR Katri is exceptionally high considering its very early growing time. In Finnish official variety trials, BOR Katri yielded 8% more than the early six‑row control variety Aukusti and also 1% more than the late six‑row control variety Kaarle (Official variety trials 2017–2024). BOR Katri has produced good yields even in dry conditions. Its yield performance in dry conditions is better than older six‑row barley varieties.
The protein content of BOR Katri is high considering its yield level, and the starch content is at a good level for an early six‑row barley. BOR Katri is well suited for use as feed and starch barley.
BOR Katri has a strong stem, slightly longer than Vertti.
The overall disease resistance of BOR Katri is good and exceptionally diverse for an early six‑row barley. Resistance to net blotch (net form) is good, as is resistance to Rhynchosporium scald. BOR Katri is fully resistant to powdery mildew.
