The new yield king of six‑row barleys is here! BOR Reino is an exceptional combination of yield, uncompromising quality, and cultivation stability, which truly shows in the on-farm grain bin — especially under northern conditions.
BOR Reino is a late six‑row barley variety, and in Finnish official trials, its growing time has been about two days longer than the control variety Kaarle. BOR Reino is suitable for cultivation in Finnish zones I–IVe.
BOR Reino changes the perception of the yield potential of six‑row barleys. In the summary results of the Finnish official variety trials from 2017–2024, BOR Reino had the highest yield among six‑row barleys and was as much as 16% higher‑yielding than the control variety Kaarle. Its exceptional yield potential, combined with good adaptability to different soil types and conditions, makes BOR Reino a stable choice for cultivation at different intensity levels. BOR Reino also tolerates acidity well.
BOR Reino is excellently suited for feed and starch barley. Its grain quality is strong in every respect. The hectoliter weight is good, the larger grain percentage is high for a six‑row barley, and the starch content is the highest among six‑row varieties.
BOR Reino is an extremely strong‑strawed variety, bringing stbaility to cultivation. The stem of BOR Reino is slightly longer than average.
The overall disease resistance of BOR Reino is exceptionally good. It is tolerant to both forms of net blotch, as well as barley Bipolaris leaf blotch. Its resistance to Rhynchosporium scald is also strong, and BOR Reino is not particularly susceptible to powdery mildew.
BOR Reino thrives well on clay soils, soils with high organic matter content, and coarse mineral soils. Seed treatment and as diverse crop rotation as possible help keep disease risk low in this disease‑resistant variety. A sowing density of 450–500 viable seeds/m² on humus soils and 500 seeds/m² on mineral or clay soils is recommended. As a late variety, BOR Reino benefits from split fertilisation.
