Alviira ^BOR

Alviira is a late variety, but still well suited to Finnish conditions. Its lateness provides adaptability to early summer drought. Alviira’s growth duration is about two days longer than the control variety Kontu used in Finnish official trials, but up to two weeks shorter than Tiffany and Allison. Alviira is suitable for Finnish cultivation zones I–III.

Alviira has a very competitive yield level, and its drought tolerance — better than traditional varieties — is especially visible in the results from zones I–II. In zone I, Alviira has yielded nearly 50% more than Kontu and approaches both Allison and Tiffany. In zone II, Alviira’s yield is comparable to Allison and Tiffany but with a significantly shorter growth duration.Alviira’s protein content is similar to Kontu. Thanks to its high yield, its protein yield is clearly higher than Kontu’s.

Alviira is excellent for protein production. It has been bred to have a low vicine–convicine content, making it suitable for food use and for feeding pigs, dairy cattle and poultry.

Alviira has a long stem, clearly longer than Kontu. Despite this, Alviira stands well, and its lodging percentage in Finnish official trials has been significantly lower than Kontu, Tiffany or Allison.

Alviira has good disease resistance. Especially its resistance to chocolate spot is better than older varieties.

Alviira has a relatively large seed, which must be considered when adjusting sowing machinery, combining and drying. Recommended sowing density: 50–60 seeds/m².
