Hertta is a high-quality timothy variety with an excellent digestibility (D) value, suitable for both three cut and two cut systems. Palatability combined with high digestibility enables high milk yield. It has good yield potential and good winter hardiness — developed through Boreal’s Nordic expertise in breeding for northern conditions.
Hertta is a productive timothy variety that produces an especially good yield in the first cut. It is a relatively late variety whose digestibility decreases slowly during the first cut. The second cut is very leafy and of superior quality compared to other timothy varieties. The combination of a high D value and a high digestible fiber content ensures high production for both dairy and beef cattle.
Hertta is best suited for silage production but also performs well on pasture and in hay production. It can be grown as a pure stand, but it is recommended to add 20–30% meadow fescue and a small amount of red clover to the mixture.
Hertta tolerates frost and winter fungi very well. Its ice cover resistance is among the best of all forage grass species.
Suitable for cultivation throughout Finland, in zones I–V. The variety thrives on all soil types.
