Inka ^BOR

Inka is a late variety, with a growth degree days between Avenue and Donna. Best suited for zones I–II in Finland and favorable parts of zone III.

Inka is high yielding, performing especially well on clay and mineral soils in southern and western Finland. Its longer stem enhances drought tolerance, contributing to very stable yields when water availability varies.

Inka is a high‑quality variety suitable for food and feed use. Key quality characteristics:

• grain size similar to Matty
• low proportion of small kernels
• thin hull
• high hectoliter weight
• higher fat content than other late oat varieties

These traits broaden both industrial and on‑farm feed applications.

Inka has a slightly longer stem but excellent stem strength. Split growth regulator application is recommended in dense growth:

• Inka shortens less than average with growth regulator treatment
• In Ostrobothnia, repeated treatments are beneficial

• good resistance to oat leaf blotch
• treated seed and diverse rotation keeps disease pressure low
• Inka has better‑than‑average resistance to DON accumulation
• among late BOR varieties, Inka has the lowest DON risk

Standard recommendations for late oats:

• good preceding crops: oil crops, legumes, winter cereals
• oats can be sown into cold soil
• sowing density 400–550 viable seeds/m²
• nitrogen management and split fertilisation help reach full yield potential
• ensure sufficient manganese
