Taika is a relatively late oat variety.

• Growing degree days requirement: ~990°C
• 25–40°C less than other late oat varieties

Taika is a high‑yielding variety with excellent grain quality that meets all milling‑industry requirements. Quality traits:

• fairly large grain size
• low proportion of <2 mm kernels
• thicker hull than average
• hectoliter weight among the highest of all varieties
• β‑glucan content at the level of Peppi and clearly higher than the variety average
• protein content higher than other late oat varieties

Taika is highly suitable for:

• milling
• export
• feed oat production

Taika has a long but strong stem, which enhances drought tolerance. Its lodging resistance is among the best of all oat varieties. A fast, dense early‑season growth habit makes Taika a strong option for organic production.

Taika has good resistance to oat leaf blotch. In Boreal DON testing, its toxin‑accumulation risk has been lower than average.

• good preceding crops: oil crops, legumes, winter cereals
• sow into cold soil
• sowing density: 400–550 viable seeds/m²
• nitrogen split fertilisation recommended
• ensure sufficient manganese

Taika’s growth type and DON risk profile also suit organic systems.
