An early, high‑quality six‑row barley with excellent agronomic characteristics. Tolerates acidity — a robust choice for northern conditions.
Hermanni is an early variety. Its growing time in the 2011–2018 Finnish official variety trials was 85.6 days, the same as Aukusti. The growing degree days requirement to reach yellow ripeness is 858 degree days.
Hermanni is a high‑yielding early barley. Its adaptability is shown by consistent success across:
Excellent yield potential has been observed at all yield levels. Hermanni also tolerates soil acidity well. Grain size is fairly large. Grain grading is very good. Hectolitre weight is among the highest of early six‑row barleys. Protein content is slightly higher than Aukusti; starch content correspondingly slightly lower.
Hermanni is suitable for feed and starch production.
Hermanni has a short and very strong straw. Lodging percentage in Finnish official trials is 1.6%.
Hermanni has good resistance to both forms of net blotch. Resistance to barley Bipolaris leaf blotch is fairly good. It has no special resistance to powdery mildew or Rhynchosporium scald. Total leaf blotch + physiological leaf spot levels have been significantly lower compared with Aukusti.
Hermanni is suitable for the entire barley‑growing area in Finnish zones I–IV, performing best on fields with good moisture availability.
