Very high yield potential, good stem strength, and excellent disease resistance. Large grain size and relatively high starch content — a stable variety for northern conditions.
Kaarle is a late six‑row barley.
Kaarle is a very high‑yielding six‑row barley and competes well even with many two‑row varieties. It has performed excellently across:
The greatest yield advantage has been observed on coarse mineral soils and clay soils. Kaarle is a heavy and large‑grained variety. Its larger kernel percentage (>2.5 mm) has been high both in Finnish official trials and in Boreal’s breeder trials. As is typical for a top‑yielding variety, protein content is relatively low — but protein yield per hectare is good.
Kaarle is excellent for feed barley production and is also a potential starch barley.
Kaarle has a very strong stem. Its lodging percentage has been very low in Finnish official trials. The stem is slightly longer than in many other barley varieties.
Kaarle has excellent overall disease resistance:
Kaarle is recommended for cultivation in zones I, II, III and IVe in Finland.
