The dependable BOR Veera delivers top yields across soil types and growing zones without extending its growing time. This variety offers excellent grain quality, and its yield capacity remains strong even in acidic soils — a valuable trait for cultivation in northern conditions.
BOR Veera is in the early category among two‑row barleys: it is just over one day later than Arild and Maire, and about the same as Vanille. BOR Veera’s thermal sum requirement is 964 degree days. Suitable Finnish cultivation zones: I–IVe.
Although BOR Veera is an early variety, it delivers the same top yield as the highest‑yielding late two‑row barleys. Yield stability is also a key strength: in variety trials, BOR Veera ranks among the absolute elite regardless of whether results are viewed by growing zone, yield level or soil type. BOR Veera tillers profusely, which improves its ability to produce yield in dry conditions. The variety also maintains its strong yield potential in acidic soils.
Its large grain size is paired with excellent grain quality. BOR Veera provides:
BOR Veera is an excellent feed and starch barley, and it also has malting potential. It has been included in Finnish malting barley testing trials in 2022 and 2023.
Medium‑tall straw with good strength.
Contributing to its stability, BOR Veera has very good resistance to both net blotch types. BOR Veera is an mlo variety, i.e. completely resistant to powdery mildew.
BOR Veera is best suited to well‑structured clay and mineral soils. Thanks to its vigorous tillering, it performs well in dry conditions. For a two‑row barley, it tolerates acidity well. On fertile soils, the use of a growth regulator is recommended, especially when conditions favor abundant tillering. If the field typically emerges evenly, BOR Veera’s strong tillering allows the sowing rate to be reduced slightly from the usual.
