Niklas is an early oat variety, maturing one day later than Eemeli and Meeri.

Niklas is one of the earliest oat varieties, yet highly competitive in yield — performing strongly even compared to varieties nearly ten days later. Grain quality highlights:

• highest thousand kernel weight among early varieties
• larger‑grained than several late milling varieties
• moderate <2 mm fraction
• good hectoliter weight
• higher‑than‑average protein & fat contents
• relatively low hull content
• good dehulling ability
• white grain

Niklas is versatile and suited for:

• food oats
• feed industry use
• export
• on‑farm feeding

Niklas has good lodging resistance. Its slightly longer stem is beneficial under dry conditions.

Niklas has average overall disease resistance among early varieties. However:

• Boreal Fusarium tests show a better‑than‑average DON risk profile

Seed treatment and fungicide applications are necessary when oats are grown repeatedly in the same fields.

Recommended for zones I–IV in Finland. Suitable for all soil types, including soils with high organic matter content. Growth regulator ensures grain quality in dense stands.
